Air Max 1 Is, to me, one of the most iconic Nike silhouette. An innovative shoe designed by Tinker Hatfield that changed the course of Nike. Today the Nike Air Max 1 is still going strong as a staple in the sneaker community. As the years have gone by, the shoe itself has "evolved" with nike's advancements in their running technology, today we see the air max 1 silhouette with flyknit uppers, lunar midsoles, engineered mesh, etc... Let's be real, these days no one uses the AM1s as a running shoe anymore, it's sleek design and classic look is now a more casual type of shoe, its an Icon.
I like custom color schemes on shoes, other sneaker enthusiasts like it, and customizers keep coming up with different ways to custom a shoe. My favorites are custom colorways that have a story, an inspiration, like a tattoo, its got to mean something. I didn't go to a customizer, I just went with what nikeiD had to offer. I've had great experiences with nikeiD with some of the Kobe's I have in my collection, but thats about it. This time around I wanted to do an AM1 with a colorway that would represent what I'm trying to push for RAWkin it, which simply put, WEAR YOUR SHOES!
Currently, for the Air Max 1 Essential iD, nikeiD only offers leather, suede, and mesh for the upper. For the midsole their options are black, white, and wolf grey, midsole paint splatter with a wide range of colors. The out sole only comes in solid colors, so you dont get that 2 tone look as the general releases, but a wide range of colors are available. all this for $130 (plus tax and shipping). I feel like the price can be lower, but it's a nikeiD AM1 and im not breaking the bank with this.
For this colorway i wanted to do something that begs to be worn. An all black upper that features nylon mesh underlays and suede panels making the shoe look more like a lifestyle, represents asphalt. Wolf grey midsole with black paint splatter to mimc the cement print thats iconic with the Air Jordan 4 represents the sidewalks and cement. I chose an orange outsole, because the shoe needed some color, but needed to go in like with the theme, I went with orange because it reminds me of traffic cones and traffic cones take beatings, i've never seen a clean traffic cone. What im trying to convey with this shoe is that the shoe is meant to be worn and at RAWkin it, we wear our shoes.
